Announcement
The school board wishes to announce our plans to redevelop the Southern China International School. In order to build a new computer centre, expand the sporting fields and create enough classrooms for 500 additional students it has been decided that the school library building must be torn down.
This decision has not been an easy one as the library is the oldest and most beautiful building in the school. For many people the library building is a symbol of the long and proud history of our school, the place where students were first taught and where all the important school records are stored. It is also one of the few remaining examples of Qing Dynasty building design in the city.
However in order to modernize the school to the standard required by the government and to satisfy the educational demands of parents, students and teachers, we believe there is no other choice. The destruction of the library will not only free up more space needed for the new buildings but it will also allow us to save much money that we currently must spend to repair the library building.
We trust our decision will have the full support of the school community.

During the spring festival, I attended a ten-day winter camp in Beijing University . We
took- part in many different activities, including a lecture on Olympic Games History and an
English language course. We also visited a new sports stadium; which is ten times bigger than
our school! Although the lecture was a little boring, most of the activities were very interesting
and useful and I had a fabulous time. I think the programme would be even better if there are
more outdoor activities because they help to broaden our horizons.

Value the Past
Our school recently announced it is planning to tear down the old library building. They say although the building is historic and important, its removal is necessary for the modernization of the school.
I felt shocked when I saw this announcement yesterday. Personally, I strongly believe we should keep this old school library. As we all know, the old school library is the symbol of our school's past and it is also a precious example of ancient building design. Everyone in our school loves this old building and each time we introduce it to the school visitors, we feel very proud. Without this building, our school will lose its distinctive feature and won't be as attractive. To modernize the school doesn't mean we have to destroy its past. On the contrary, we should. preserve this cultural relic as it is. Although it may cost a lot of money to do so, the building deserves it.
Think about the Future

I agree with the school's decision to tear down the old library building. Although the library is beautiful, if our school is to progress then it must be sacrificed. The computer room will give the students the opportunity to improve their IT skills and increase their chances of finding a good job after they complete their studies. Also the new teaching building will give many more students the opportunity to benefit from the high quality education our school provides. Finally it is said that a healthy body will help you have a healthy mind so the sporting field is not only necessary for the health of the students but also for their academic performance. If our society is to progress then sometimes we must be willing to make difficult decisions for the good of all.
