C
I entered high school having read hundreds of books. But I was not a good reader. Merely bookish, I lacked a point of view when I read. Rather, I read in order to get a point of view. I searched books for good expressions and sayings, pieces of information, ideas, themes—anything to enrich my thought and make me feel educated. When one of my teachers suggested to his sleepy tenth-grade English class that a person could not have a "complicated (复杂的) idea" until he had read at least two thousand books, I heard the words without recognizing either its irony (嘲讽) or its very complicated truth. I merely determined to make a list of all the books I had ever read. Strict with myself, I included only once a title I might have read several times. ( How, after all, could one read a book more than once?) And I included only those books over a hundred pages in length. ( Could anything shorter be a book?)
There was yet another high school list I made. One day I came across a newspaper article about an English professor at a nearby state college. The article had a list of the "hundred most important books of Western Civilization. " "More than anything else in my life," the professor told the reporter with finality , " these books have made me all that I am . " That was the kind of words I couldn’t ignore (忽视). I kept the list for the several months it took me to read all of the titles. Most books, of course, I hardly understood. While reading Plato's The Republic, for example, I needed to keep looking at the introduction of the book to remind myself what the text was about. However, with the special patience and superstition (迷信) of a schoolboy, I looked at every word of the text. And by me time I reached the last word, pleased, I persuaded myself that I had read The Republic, and seriously crossed Plato off my list.

请阅读下面某高三学生写给编辑的一封短信,然后根据要求写一篇150词左右的英语短文。
 Dear editor.
      I used to imagine the beautiful school life without any pressure, in the beautiful camps like heaven;
 we experienced lots of new things and enjoyed our youth. At that time I was really happy, even though what we did every day was just sinking ourselves in the boring books.
      But, I knew I was totally wrong after I came to senior three. We were overloaded with various assignments; we had to memorize a lot of difficult English words so as to achieve higher scores on the exams. In addition, for the sake of our future, we had to take the coursed not only in our own major but also in some related fields. We felt that once we slowed down, we might fall into a low position in class. Too much pressure has injured our mental and physical health as we suffer from nervousness, tiredness, sleeplessness and depression. Many of us have tried very hard at school but they failed in certain examinations and have disappointed their parents. Such students feel that they are less important than everyone else they meet and leave school before they have finished their study. I am just very upset with the present situation and I don’t know what I should do.
Yours sincerely

基础写作:
March 15th, Monday
This evening I went to Li Jiang’s birthday party and we sang and danced, so we had a good time. After that, I had to walk home because when I left Li Jiang’s house, it began to rain and it was late. A motorbike ran by me very fast and hit a boy at the crossing. But the motorbike ran away without stop. I felt very angry and telephoned the police at once because I had marked down its number: FD---2819, after which I sent the boy to the hospital.

任务型写作:
On Stress
The above-mentioned passage tells us a letter by a senior -3 student, who is suffering from the study pressure and he is at a loss about his normal daily life and study.
With the time closer to college exam, more and more students are living under great pressure. Their pressure comes from the teachers, parents and even themselves. However, every coin has two sides, including pressure from studying. Some students feel that the stresses of study take joy and happiness from them. In their view, stress does harm to them both physically and mentally. However, some students advocate the opinion that where there is pressure, there is opportunity, and where there is opportunity, where there is possibility for success.
I believe that the pressure (not too much though) will help push us to study harder, make greater progress and eventually reach our desired destination. So, in order to study well under pressure, I divide my activities into study and relaxation. Whatever difficulties I meet, I always remain optimistic and try to convert pressure into force.
